Society is ready for the return of the pop girly who can dance. Enter, Tate McRae.
A couple of things – 1) Her music video for Sports Car is phenomenal and 2) I can’t stop thinking about the looks. There’s nine of them in all three minutes and seven seconds of the video. So, let’s get to it.
Look 1 – I’ll call this, Cheetah Momma
Not to be mistaken with our former Cheetah Girls (though, we do love them), this look is much less Disney. I can’t decide my favorite part – the bustier or the hat. Cheetah print has always been a classic and I’m here for its popularity resurgence.
Look 2 – How is something this eerie, this sexy?
I love this concept. So. Much. I imagine the brainstorm of how they got to this point going like this.
- Tate: “So I want to be draped in this sheer, veil fabric. As if I’m this statue that’s been covered in a museum.”
- Stylist, Brett Alan Nelson: “And underneath is lace underwear. Because you’re a hot statue.”
- Tate: “I’ll need a crown to keep the fabric off my face so I don’t look like the Scream ghost.”
- Brett, “Oh yes, yes. And don’t let me forget to talk to set design about the Christ portrait on the wall.”
Okay, so maybe it didn’t go quite like this but that doesn’t matter.
Look 3 – She’s a showgirl, honey
Tate is making the Vegas showgirls jealous. Maybe the Victoria Secret angels too?
Look 4 – Horse girl (done right)

Stuh-nning. This is confirmation that boho trends are making a comeback. Which I’m personally nervous about. But if it involves bleaching my eyebrows and micro-shorts, I think I can get on board.
Look 5 – Chunky streaks sleeps over
For all those years, we were doing chunky highlights vertically, when they should have been done horizontally. Shout out to her hairstylist, Chad Wood, for setting the record straight. Hair aside, this is a classic sleepover look. A white spaghetti strap tank top, paired with white boxer shorts. That’s hot.
Look 6 – Biker shorts, meet micro shorts
Plus, the helmet?! So bizarre and so good. I love a look that feels slightly off balance. A prime example of the portion equations.
- Small top + large bottoms = balance
- Large top + small bottoms = balance
Look 7 – Intentionally Left Blank
This one is the hardest for me to organize my thoughts around. I can’t decide what it’s giving. Why do I keep thinking of furbie? In a fur tutu?
Look 8 – Hold me
Remember in Schiaparelli’s Spring 2024 show when model, Maggie Maurer, carried the robot baby down the runway? This gives the same feeling. And nothing’s changed, I can’t look away.

Look 9 – Siren of the gods
Tate’s not shy about her love for Britney Spears and this has Slave 4 U written all over it. Pinterest’s 2025 Trend Predictions reports that Sea Witchery will be in this year. I think they’re right.
Well, that’s all folks. Go get your sexy on and listen to “So Close To What.”
